Dead Battery

In preparation for the drive back to Phoenix, I wanted to make sure my car was up for the long haul.  I suspected a bad battery due to the sad chug-a-lug sound that eminates when I turn the key.  Plus I had to jump it once when I left the radio on while vacuuming the interior...  The guy at autozone confirmed that the battery was bad and proceeded to look up a replacement battery in his system.  When the one he pulled off the shelf was about an inch wider than the original battery I pulled out, I became suspicious that there may be a reliability shortfall somewhere in the whole "which-part-do-I-need" autozone system.  Fortunately, the human aspect proved its worth in this instance when the attendant arbitrarily pulled an alternate battery down that was a similar size to the bad one and left the decision up to me.  I went with the one that would fit in my battery bay...

Starbucks sucks

It's sad when Starbucks is the only coffee shop option in a town. I don't do the crazy sugar drinks and Starbucks coffee tastes terrible. But the only other option is the chain bookstore where they make you pay for wifi... not cool. Then I end up spending money on books that I will probably not read. At least starbucks has free wifi or they are conveniently located close enough to a mobile phone storefront to jack into their free wireless. Have you ever ordered a bagel at starbucks? They should call it a "Screw you in a bag" I'm from New Jersey. I know the true potential of a bagel with cream cheese.

Luna Gets Kicked Out of Day Camp

So I am currently in Texas on work for 3 weeks and had to board Luna at Pete and Mac's dog boarding place in Phoenix. After my first week away I got a call from one of the employee's, probably not Pete OR Mac, informing me that Luna was essentially getting kicked out of the daily "Day Camp" service where they let her socialize with all the other dogs for a few hours a day for an additional $12 a day. They said she had too much explosive energy and curiosity that she was provoking the other dogs. They were worried this could potentially lead to an escalating situation calling forth the dog's primal instincts and leading to some good old doghouse throwdowns. So they alternatively take her for a half hour walk for $5 a day. My Youth-Dog in Revolt saved me over $100 easy over the course of her stay.

Good Girl, Luna! Hang tight and don't kill anybody... I'll be home soon!

No Such Thing as a Free Breakfast

I woke up Saturday morning faced with the question of where to eat breakfast. Instead of the free continental hotel breakfast, i decided to drive for 15 min to pay for a better breakfast at Golden Corral. I was so excited I walked in without paying at the door. I considered how easy it would be to accept a free breakfast buffet since i was already "in". If I had had cash to tip the waitress who was nice enough to refill my coffee, I might have revelled in my good fortune. But as it was I couldn't leave without tipping.
Realizing how eager i was to pay someone for my morning meal, I made myself feel better by watching a FREE movie on the hotel cable TV.

Public Posts

The problem with blogging is that the rest of the world can read your posts. Not that they do... in fact I'm pretty confident that no one will be jumping at the chance to follow my new blog. But there is still the possibility that some future generation may stumble upon these characters once they are out there in the ether. Most of my profound and not so profound thoughts are too private to comfortably share with the world. So I apologize that you are left with this blog about nothing.
